More than a century of care
Julia Day Nursery opened its doors in 1917, and we have been caring for children in Ansonia ever since. Generations of Valley families have passed through these rooms: parents who once sat on our rug now bring their own children to the same door. That continuity is the heart of who we are.
We are a non-profit preschool serving families across the Lower Naugatuck Valley and New Haven County. Our purpose is simple, and it has not changed: to provide quality childcare in a safe, warm, nurturing environment where, in partnership with families, children can grow and learn.

Our classrooms
Three teachers for every twenty children, with breakfast, lunch and snack served daily at no cost.
Sunflowers
Our preschool room for threes and fours, where routines, friendships and early literacy take root.
Marigolds
Our pre-kindergarten room for fours and fives, preparing children for a confident first day of school.
Snapdragons
Before and after school care for children in kindergarten through grade two at Prendergast and Mead.
Why families choose us
Meals included
Free breakfast, lunch and snack are served daily. No lunch boxes to pack, no extra cost.
Small groups
Three teachers for every twenty children, so every child is known well by the adults who care for them.
Help with cost
We accept Care 4 Kids and are an Early Start CT site. Call us and we will help you work out what is available.
